Today has certainly been a very important day for Indian cinema at Oscars 2023. Junior NTR and Ram Charan, the stars of the highly popular serial RRR, gave their best at the event. Both their outfits represented India in their own unique ways – and both looked stunning while doing so.
Jr. NTR, who is fondly known as the man of the masses, recently said in an interview that he will have India in his heart when he walks the Oscars red carpet. But this actor not only carried India in his heart, but also on his sleeve! The custom black velvet bandhgala with golden metallic tiger embroidery had similarities with the country’s national animal. It was also an ode to the breakup scene from RRR, as well as a reference to the name Young Tiger used for Jr NTR. This dress was created by fashion designer Gaurav Gupta.
Jr NTR paired the bandhgala with Brue & Bareskin leather shoes and a Vacheron Constantin watch.
Gaurav Gupta said that the idea of creating this outfit was to bring together a combination of NTR’s personality and a tribute to India. It was important to me that the outfit has an element of NTR’s personality and at the same time represents a true global Indian. And all this goes beautifully with the antique tiger embroidery on the black velvet bandhgala. The tiger is a tribute to India as it is our national animal along with NTR Junior popularly known as ‘Young Tiger’ and of course RRR. The outfit was also a tribute to his character Republicam Bheem.
Ram Charan, on the other hand, honored local artisans by custom-making Shantanu and Nikhil, which he wore at the 2023 Oscars.
Ram Charan also wore a bandhgala and was modeled by Nikita Jaisingani. The sexily fluid kurta was inspired by her RRR character, Alluri Sitarama Raju, and featured elements of the Indian Army, such as medal-inspired pins and buttons that resemble chakras. It also represented modern India. Ram Charan was accompanied by his wife, Upasana Kamineni Kunidla, who donned a beautiful traditional Jayanti Reddy custom silk and putli saree, made of handwoven silk and spun fabric, and recycled scraps, and a lily collar made by Bina. . The cast was part of RRR’s representation at the 2023 Oscars. Naatu Naatu, the much-loved song from SS Rajamouli’s film, won the award for Best Original Song. Composer MM Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose, who were present along with the actors and Rajamouli, accepted the award on behalf of the team.
“I grew up listening to the Carpenters and now I’m with Oscar,” M Kirwani said. “There was only one wish in my mind… RRR should win, the pride of every Indian, and should put me on top of the world,” he sang to Top of the World with his lyrics.
